The government has contracted local food vendors and private accommodation providers to provide food and stay for the doctors.
As there were several complaints raised by the doctors and other medical professionals regarding the quality of the food provided to them, the health department initiated an enquiry under Dr SenthilKumar IAS to probe the allegations in all the districts.
The Health Department Officials during their enquiry found that the local contractors were charging exorbitant charges for the food which were purchased from the local caters in the districts and then distributed it to the medical professionals and also found that the food was not in the quality which was promised by the contractors.
Explaining the irregularities, the Health Minister Ma. Subramanian stated that the contractors were charging anywhere between 550-600 rupees per day, per individual for providing food and rupees 900 was charged per day for the stay by the private accommodations.
