In this episode of Converse India, Rahul Shivshankar discusses India's Economic growth and recovery. It has been 18 months since the COVID-19 pandemic made its appearance in India and the economic inequalities are on a rampant increase. The prices of fuel, edible oil have been on a constant rise, leading to a hole in the consumer's pocket. Apart from this, the rate of unemployment has also gone up, with many people being laid off due to the current COVID situation. While the salaries are seeing a cut, inflation continues to create havoc in the pockets of middle-class people. To assess the economic toll, Amitabh Kant of Niti Ayog, Shamika Ravi and Ajit Pai join the show to share their views.
It is important to see that the non-poor have suffered quite a bit too in the pandemic. Emphasis on the middle class for fiscal support becomes a pressing issue, says Shamika Ravi, ex-Member PMEAC.
